Health and Safety

Our Commitment

MWB CONTRACTING INC. makes every effort to provide a healthy and safe work environment for all.


Health & Safety Initiatives:

  1. Taking every reasonable precaution to ensure the workplace and worksite is safe.
  2. Training employees and subcontractors about any potential hazards and in how to safely use, handle, store and dispose of hazardous substances and how to handle emergencies.
  3. Making sure workers and subcontractors know how to use and handle the equipment safely and properly.
  4. Making sure workers and subcontractors use any necessary personal protective equipment.
  5. Immediately reporting all critical injuries to the government department responsible for OH&S.
  6. Appointing a competent supervisor who sets the standards for performance, and who ensures safe working conditions are always observed. 
  7. Ensuring workers and subcontractors are educated, trained or certified as required.
  8. Reporting incidents and cases of occupational disease to the appropriate authority.
  9. Providing medical and first aid facilities.
  10. Ensuring personal protective equipment is available and maintained.
  11. Providing workers and subcontractors with health and safety information.
  12. Supporting supervisors in their health and safety activities.
  13. Evaluating health and safety performance of supervisors.
  14. Ensuring the health and safety program is reviewed and updated annually.


MWB through all levels of management, will cooperate with the Health & Safety Representative and workers to create a healthy and safe work environment. Cooperation is also extended to others such as contractors, customers/owners, officers, and so on.

All workers are required to support MWB Health and Safety Initiatives and to cooperate with the Health & Safety Representatives.

Health & Safety Responsibilities


Employee Responsibilities

  1. Wear appropriate personal protection and safety equipment as required by the employer and for the specific task.
  2. Know and comply with all company policies and OH&S acts and regulations.
  3. Report any injury or illness immediately to the supervisor or manager.
  4. Participate in the health and safety committees or as the representative. 
  5. Report immediately to your supervisor/foreperson, and prior to leaving the workplace.
  6. Respect all work safe work practices and safe job procedures.
  7. Not consume or possess alcohol or drugs  at the workplace. 
  8. Report workplace hazards and dangers to the supervisor or employer.
  9. Tell the supervisor or employer about any missing or defective equipment or protective device.


Supervisor Responsibilities

  1. Ensure employees and subcontractors work in compliance with OH&S acts and regulations.
  2. Ensure that employees and subcontractors use prescribed protective equipment and/or devices.
  3. Advise employees and subcontractors of potential and actual hazards.
  4. Provide employees with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for protection of the worker.
  5. Take every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of workers and subcontractors.
  6. Ensure employees are competent to do the work.
  7. Instruct employees and subcontractors to follow safe work practices and safe work procedures.
  8. Ensure that only authorized or adequately trained workers perform tasks or operate equipment.
  9. Report and investigate all incidents.
  10. Inspect the areas they  have control over and take remedial action to minimize or eliminate hazards.
  11. Ensure equipment is properly maintained.
  12. Promote safety awareness.
  13. Ensure equipment is in good working order.


Management Responsibilities

  1. Establish and maintain a Health and Safety Committee, or have workers select at least one Health and Safety Representative.
  2. Take every reasonable precaution to ensure the workplace is safe.
  3. Train employees and subcontractors about any potential hazards, in how to safely use, handle, store and dispose of hazardous substances and how to handle emergencies.
  4. Make sure workers and subcontractors know how to use and handle the equipment safely and properly.
  5. Make sure workers and subcontractors use any necessary personal protective equipment.
  6. Immediately report all critical injuries  the Ministry of Labour.
  7. Appoint a competent supervisor who sets the standards for performance, and who ensures safe working conditions are always observed. 
  8. Ensure workers and subcontractors are educated, trained or certified, as required.
  9. Provide medical and first aid facilities.
  10. Ensure personal protective equipment is available and maintained.
  11. Provide workers and subcontractors with Health and Safety information.
  12. Support supervisors in their health and safety activities.
  13. Evaluate Health and Safety performance of supervisors.
  14. Ensure the Health and Safety program is reviewed annually.


Subcontractor Responsibilities

  1. Must wear appropriate personal protection and safety equipment as required by the employer and for the specific task.

  4. Participate in the health and safety site meetings.
  5. Report all incidents immediately to the site supervisor, and prior to leaving the workplace.
  6. Not consume or possess alcohol or drugs  at the workplace. 
  7. Report workplace hazards and dangers to the supervisor or employer.
  8. Work in a safe manner and follow all safe work and safe job procedures,
  9. Tell the supervisor or employer about any missing or defective equipment or protective device.
